Blogs in the Classroom

Besides being a great tool to share information about your personal life, blogs can have many uses in the classroom as well. There are several advantages that blogs could bring to the classroom:

1) The teacher could post homework and other assignments on the blog so that it can be accessed by the students in case they forgot to write it down. This would also allow the parents to check and see what homework their children have to complete so the parents can be involved in the schoolwork and be more informed about what is going on in the classroom. Students and parents would both also be able to post questions about the homework assignments on the blog which the teacher could respond to.

2) Teachers could post notices or general information about the what the students are learning in the classroom.

3)The teacher could also post upcoming events, i.e. field trips, birthdays, Halloween parades, Holiday parties, etc. This could include a note of the times these things will be taking place as well as if students are required to bring anything or any other supplies are needed.

4) Blogs could also be used in the classroom to let students write up summaries and opinions about books they are reading and allow other people to comment about them and even possibly have the author write back to them about their blog.

For the most part this whole list in how teachers can use blogs is to communicate from Teacher to student and Teacher to parent and vice versa. It can also be used to create lessons and is only limited by the creativity and determination of the teacher.
